We as parents want to give the best to our children. We want to give them the best education, we want to hire the best tutors for them, we want them to wear the best clothes. We basically want to give them the best life. But, in all this, we forget the most important organ of our body which is our 'Brain'. The most powerful tool. There are 85 billion neurons as many brain cells as there are stars in the milky way galaxy. Each of those neurons has thousands of thread-like connections, called synapses, linked to other neurons in the brain with more than a hundred trillion connections. That's ten times more than the estimated number of galaxies in the entire universe. It's this complex, it's this vast and we underestimate the power of the most complex machine in our body.
Why Brain is important for us?- We can't function without our brain. It runs all our organs. It regulates our temperature, our heartbeat, our breathing, our digestive system, our motor moments. We walk, talk, hear, see, think, analyze, dream, plan, make decisions, and many more we do all these things with the help of our brain. In fact, how we behave and perform a certain task, read, memorize, etc. is the result of the wiring of our neurons.
How changes happen in our brain- Neurons that are strongly connected together help us to perform any task with ease, perfection, and automatically. On the other hand, neurons that are loosely connected lead to imperfection, forgetting, and willpower to continue the task. E.g- we don't forget to brush our teeth, switch our lights on, our way to our office/home even on our bad days also because we have done those tasks thousand of times and set of neurons are strongly connected to those particular tasks in our brains, so they have now become the automatic part of our life. Therefore to include good habits in our life or to be master in any skill, we need to perform that task thousand of times so that neurons related to that activity get hard- wired in our brain, till it becomes an automatic part of our life and we get perfect in our skill. Actually, research says a wide range of time is usually needed from 65 days to 365 days for any habit to become automatic in your life. Minimum 66 days are required, but since every person is unique, their environment is different so it varies from person to person. The good news is that we can change the wiring of neurons with deliberate and conscious effort. The brain is a muscle and as a body can be built through exercise, the same way our brain too can be shaped with regular practice. By changing the wiring of our brain we can change our behavior and performance. Changing the wiring of our neurons and the brain's ability to change itself is known as neuroplasiticity
What changes our brain?- Exercise changes our brain. Diet changes our brain, when we learn a new skill we change our brain by making new neural connections. Relaxation changes our brain. Daydreaming changes our brain, And every powerful negative or positive thought or emotion that you concentrate on changes your brain in a healthy and unhealthy way too. You can change your brain, not just by doing, but also just by thinking. e.g- Research shows that the act of focusing and being aware through meditation changes the brain too. To cut the long story short every good habit, positive thoughts, strong beliefs, and regular and consistent practice on a specific task change our brain in a healthy way while on the other hand every negative thought, bad habits, laziness, limited beliefs changes our brain in an unhealthy way. From a neural perspective, your life is made up almost entirely of your habits. Just as you have neural patterns for brushing your teeth with the same hand, in the same way, you also have habits for how you think and even how you feel. If your habits are aligned with your goals and if you are ready to spend those amount of hours till it becomes automatic in your brain, in your neural pathway and become a part of your life, you can possibly reach any goal by just training and changing your brain and your neural circuits. To change the results in your life, change your thoughts, words, actions, and ultimately your neural connections- 'your brain'.
